How often do I need a hot tub drain and clean?
Homeowners should drain and clean their spa every 3 to 6 months. Hot tub users may be exposed to excessive and unhealthy amounts of chemicals when not done routinely. ProTouch offers our hot tub drain and clean service for both inground and above ground spas and hot tubs.

We offer our hot tub drain and clean service because out of balance water can become a safety concern. Flexible spa drain and clean options for San Diego hot tub owners.
A hot tub drain and clean normally takes between 1-2 hours to complete. It depends on the size of the spa or hot tub and the degree of cleaning needed to complete the job. The time to complete also varies greatly if the client does not need us to fill the water completely. Spa owners sometimes wish to fill the hot tub themselves in which case we leave them the start up chemicals. ProTouch understands that every San Diego spa or hot tub is different and will all have their own requirements.
All in one hot tub drain and clean services.
Our spa technicians have extensive water chemistry knowledge. They make sure every hot tub drain and clean is done properly, giving you the most enjoyable experience possible. We provide the start up chemicals, the equipment for draining and the cleaning materials to make sure the job is performed correctly. When completed the hot tub will have fresh, clean water that can be more easily maintained. The spa is then readily available for use, offering an enjoyable experience for family and friends.
The ProTouch hot tub drain and clean process.
Step One: cleaning the spa cover
The first step of our hot tub drain and clean is to clean the cover. We remove any dirt and debris from the spa cover and then set it aside. The top of the hot tub cover is exposed to the elements and collects a dust and dirt buildup. We clean and wipe down the top of the cover with a vinyl protectant. The underside of the hot tub cover is then thoroughly cleaned and inspected. If we find issues such as mold, mildew or extensive damage we will recommend that the spa cover be replaced. We can also supply an estimate for a new spa cover.
Step Two: fully draining the hot tub
We then drain the water out completely using an industrial sump pump. The remaining water is taken out with a shop vacuum. Local codes that relate to the drainage of water is always adhered to. During our hot tub drain and clean the water will be properly emptied. We drain the water to wherever we need to in order to be compliant.
Step Three: Cleaning the spa surface
The next step of our hot tub drain and clean is the surface cleaning. We wipe down and scrub the entire spa shell surface including the sides, seats and benches. Using a sponge and scrub pad we remove any scum, dirt and oily build up from the water line. Our technician then rinses the hot tub and drains the water. A clean towel is then used to dry the entire surface so we can double check the cleaning. Once the spa is perfectly clean we will begin to refill the hot tub with fresh water.
Step Four: cleaning the spa filter
While the hot tub is refilling, the next step of the hot tub drain and clean is to inspect the spa cartridge filter. If the spa filter is in good condition we will thoroughly clean the filter. There will be proper flow when the filter is in good shape. We will recommend that the filter be replaced if it is not in good overall condition. The freshly cleaned spa filter or new filter is then installed.
Step Five: balancing the water chemistry after the spa is refilled
The final step of the ProTouch hot tub drain and clean is to balance the water chemistry. Close attention is paid to the pH, Total Alkalinity and chlorine or bromine levels. While we are putting away our equipment the spa circulation pump and booster pumps are turned on. After we finish putting away our equipment we retest the spa water making final adjustments as needed. The spa drain and clean is then complete.
An Added Option For San Diego Hot Tub Owners
We offer San Diego homeowners two options of our hot tub drain and clean. The first option involves our technician refilling a portion of the water and adding minimal chemicals. The spa owner then fills the rest of the water and turns the spa back on. Then they add the remaining chemicals which we leave at the property. Option one is available with a discount. During the second option we take care of everything including the refilling and adding the chemicals.
